💡 In plain English
Bitcoin has a hard max supply of 21 million. Of those, 20.05M (95.5%) have already been mined; the remaining 947.69K will be issued gradually until ~2140.
But not every circulating BTC is truly "in circulation". Public research estimates that ~3.21M BTC (16% of supply) are likely permanently lost— lost private keys, forgotten passwords, or Satoshi's original coins that have never moved.
That means the actually accessiblesupply is smaller than it looks. It's one of the arguments for BTC scarcity.
